harrisburg's first distillery
THE HISTORY OF MIDSTATE
Midstate Distillery is a family-owned labor of love. Business partners since 2013, brothers-in-law since 2005. After working together at Brian’s countertop manufacturing company, we both found ourselves looking to make a big change. We realized that the market in Central Pennsylvania was also craving something new. And so we landed on the concept of small batch liquor with a goal of opening the first distillery in the Harrisburg Area since Prohibition.
In December of 2013, we purchased the former Smith Paint building on 1817 N. Cameron Street to become the home of Midstate Distillery. Then began the slow process of building rehab and renovations. Windows, gutters and exhaust fans to replace... brickwork and chimneys to patch… lots of cleaning and painting… we even had to haul away an abandoned tractor trailer from the parking lot!
Thankfully, the industrial space transformed into a stylish tasting room with lots of help from our very generous friends and family (See? Labor of love). Our bar was made with salvaged wood from the original front of the building to keep some of its history with us.
This renovation process gave us ample time to perfect our recipes and build partnerships with other local businesses to source our ingredients. In January of 2016, we opened our doors to the public and began offering our tasting room and cocktail lounge for events. We are proud to share our spirits with you and excited to hear what you think.
